Firefox 1.5 and the Greasemonkey Extension
Mozilla Firefox 1.5 was released yesterday and if you are a heavy user of
browser extensions you may notice that after upgrading, several of your extensions may no longer be working. For me, 3 of my 15 extensions have not yet been updated to work with Firefox 1.5.
Right off the bat you should run a search for updates to see if Firefox can find updates on it's own through the new and improved update system (
Tools
-
Extensions
-
Find Updates
). If no updates are available there, try the extension's home page (Right click on your extension and select
Visit Home Page
), and if that doesn't work, try
Google, or check and see if there is another extension that does the same task.
I have been using the Firefox 1.5 release candidates for several weeks now, and I have been extremely bummed that one of my favorite and most used extensions,
Greasemonkey, was not compatible with Firefox 1.5. If you go to the
Greasemonkey blog however you can get beta version that is supposed to work, but it doesn't (in fact, it even caused problems with Firefox's normal functionality and I thought was in error in the core browser). So I have had to run Firefox for several weeks with Greasemonkey disabled.
Then with yesterday's official 1.5 release, I decided to search more for a version of Greasemonkey that works. And low and behold, barried within the 230+ user comments on
the latest blog entry is a link to an un-official version of Greasemonkey that
really is Firefox 1.5 compatible. According to the
comments, this un-official version
will become official down the line. (Note: Comment permalink isn't work, run a
Find
on the page for "20:24")
Hopefully this help anyone else that finds themselves in the same situation as I did. Now back to using my wonderful collection of
Greasemonkey user scripts. . .
UPDATE 2005-12-01 After all my troubles of finding the hidden 0.6.3 version, Greasemonkey 0.6.4 has been officially released via the main channels. Get it via Firefox's built-in Extension updater or from the Greasemonkey Blog.
Arrested Development DVDs
Ever since I heard that Arrested Development was cancelled, I have been debating whether I should purchase the
existing seasons on
DVD right now, one by one - or wait for the inevitable "Complete Series" DVD set that will for sure be released in the future.
I have created a
Say-So thread for people to vote on the subject. Please help me out as I can not make up my mind.
Connected to the Internet Again
So, after being disconnected from the Internet for 10 days by my ISP, I am very glad to be back on-line.
I have been very furtunate to be able to work from a friend's office not too far off from my house, but I pretty much only strictly worked, and didn't get much time to browse the web casually.
Oh yea... I haven't learned my lesson.
My 2nd DMCA Violation (A.K.A. Don't download HBO TV Shows)
My enthusiasm for downloading TV shows via BitTorrent has been curbed.
I am not going to jail. Basically a cease and desist from
HBO (who has a very cool lawyer that I spoke to). As for my ISP, since this is my 2nd offense, per their
TOS, my service has been shut down for 10 days. This sucks hardcore. A 3rd offense will result in perminate blacklisting (I don't plan on getting a 3rd offense). Luckily I know some really cool people here in Boise, ID and I have a place to work from during these next 2 weeks.
More info to follow.
